According to a study by PWC, internet advertising is closing in on TV advertising to become the largest entertainment and media advertising segment. The Middle East alone attributes to 8-10% of the global expenditure on digital advertising, with the UAE at the forefront and Saudi Arabia not far behind.

With over 135 million internet users in the Arab world, 71 million of which are active participants in the social sphere, the rapid proliferation of captive media and mobile screens have become a point of growing interest and investment in the region’s marketing arena.

How will marketing further evolve? Will digital marketing eclipse all traditional media? What skills and qualifications will employers want? These were a few thought provoking questions that were answered at last weekend’s Murdoch Open Night by Maha Sidahmed, Senior Faculty and Program Head for Murdoch University Dubai’s School of Media, Communication and Culture. The lecture also emphasised the importance of content marketing and disclosed some of the myths surrounding digital marketing.

The open night lecture series held on Friday 27 March at Towers Rotana Dubai, witnessed a successful turnout of working professionals, high school graduates, parents and teachers. These lecture series provide a great opportunity for future students and parents to engage faculty, alumni and staff whilst they learn more about the range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered at the Murdoch University Dubai.
