Pocket MBA gathers group of UAE professionals on campus

The Murdoch Pocket MBA, a two-day short course on the principles of business management, took place at the Murdoch Dubai campus on the 2nd and 3rd of August.

Designed as a sample of the Murdoch MBA program, Murdoch Business School lecturers delivered three sessions each day on the main topics and basic concepts covered in the Murdoch MBA, followed by group exercises and networking time.

The subjects covered included the basics of Business Finance, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business, Organisational Behaviour, Business Law, Strategic Decision Making and Leadership.

“Following on from the success of the Mentorship lectures run at Knowledge Village last month, we were delighted with the excellent turnout at our inaugural two-day Pocket MBA. With attendees representing a wide variety of industry sectors, there is clearly a strong interest in career development through relevant and flexible postgraduate qualifications such as the MBA”, said Amanda McStay, Academic Director of the Murdoch Business School in Dubai.

“The targeted “pocket” lectures provided participants with a good understanding of many of the key concepts covered in an MBA program, and feedback from those who attended indicated they enjoyed the participative style of the Murdoch learning experience. Given the success of these programs to date, we would love to look at offering more in the future”, she added.

The intensive short-course was attended by managers, business owners and executives from industry sectors such as IT, Oil and Gas, Engineering, Retail and General Trading, to get an insight into Master’s level business management studies and to help decide whether to pursue their studies further.

“I found the course extremely useful as I have a strong technical background but lacked confidence in business management. After taking part in the program I feel more self-assured in leading my team in achieving targets. I discovered a number of new concepts that I can directly apply to my work. The lecturers made everything sound straightforward and I enjoyed networking with other professionals.” said Melvin Mathew, MEP Coordinator from Khansaheb Civil Engineering.

Participants also received a certificate at the end of the two-day program.
