Murdoch University Dubai celebrates the accomplishments of the graduating class of 2015

Graduation marks the culmination of a student’s academic achievements and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Murdoch University Dubai, together with its Academic Infrastructure Provider, Global Institute Middle East (GIMEL), hosted its sixth graduation celebration on Saturday the 31st of October at the Zayed University Convention Centre. This was a very special occasion not only for the graduates but also for their family and friends, who have supported them through their studies and who joined them for the celebration.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of Murdoch University, Professor Andrew Taggart, delivered the keynote speech celebrating the accomplishments of the graduating class and charging them with using what they have learned to make a positive difference in the world.

In keeping with tradition, Global Institute Middle East conferred the annual Col. S.P. Wahi Leadership Award to Mr David Evans, who have most displayed commendable leadership qualities. This award is in honour of the former Chairman of ONGC – India’s largest Oil and Natural Gas Company, and retired Colonel of the Indian Army Colonel S.P. Wahi. Dubai International Academic City also recognised the efforts of the undergraduate and postgraduate valedictorians, Ms Shannil Bhanji and Mr David Evans with the DIAC Excellence Awards. The founders of Global Institute Middle East (GIMEL) recognised Mr Wayne Muller of Murdoch Dubai faculty for excellence in teaching with the Zafar Siddiqui and Rakesh Wahi Award for Faculty Service. Ms Claire Macrae, Program Coordinator, MEd, received the Vice Chancellor’s staff excellence award for her commitment and dedication towards her work.

The formal function was followed by a gala dinner for Murdoch University alumni hosted by the Acting Vice Chancellor, which welcomed the new graduates to an ever-growing network of over 65,000 Murdoch University alumni worldwide.

As a leading international university campus, Murdoch University Dubai comprises a multicultural student body of over 800 students from 70 different nationalities. The campus has shown continued strong growth since its opening in 2008. The current graduating batch alone comprised of 104 students.

Murdoch University Dubai wishes all its graduates every success in their chosen paths and looks forward to maintaining a close relationship with them in the years to come.
