Claire Macrae

School of Education

Claire Macrae has been teaching on and co-ordinating the Masters in Education programme at Murdoch Dubai for the last 4 years. She holds two Masters degrees in Education, most recently from London’s Middlesex University in Dubai, and another from Rhodes University in South Africa. Seeing the difference in the learning environments, experienced almost twenty years apart, provided inspiration and fuelled her passion for the complex and dynamic world of 21st century learning.

Claire has many years of educational experience in a secondary school context, as well as an educational publishing background in South Africa, where she ran her own publishing business before moving to Dubai with her family in 2007. Her interest in 21st century learning arose out of her experience with forward-thinking schools here and her Masters study, which focused on ways of enhancing the learning potential of digital games. She loves the challenge of assisting others to make teaching and learning with technology meaningful and relevant to the future generations and encouraging teachers to become change agents within their own environments. Her philosophy of teaching is grounded in the belief that students, particularly at HE level, should be critically reflective learners who are able to construct their own knowledge via social interaction and enquiry learning. She sees a learner-centred collaborative approach, partnering between teachers and students, and making the most of technology to encourage creativity and innovation, as the solution to some of the complex challenges in the world today.
